Man arrested after throwing stolen cat litter

A Bangor man was arrested Monday evening after throwing a bag of stolen cat litter at the Bangor police officer who was trying to apprehend him.

Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Officer Dan Sanborn was driving his police car on Main Street when he saw a Shaw’s loss prevention officer chasing a man, later identified as 29-year-old Anthoni Wayne Jensen. Sanborn pulled into a nearby parking lot and waited as Jensen ran in his direction. As he neared the officer, Jensen reportedly threw the bag of cat litter — valued at $2.72 — at him.

About that time, Officer Brian Smith, also of the city police department, arrived in the area and apprehended the suspect, who was taken to Penobscot County Jail on theft and failure to submit to arrest charges. A jail official said Jensen was released after a court appearance on Wednesday. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
