Showhegan murder suspect released from hospital

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine state police say a Skowhegan woman charged with murder in a Christmas Eve killing in her apartment is now in custody.

Investigators say Karen McCaul was arrested Wednesday after being released from an undisclosed hospital. She’s due Tuesday afternoon for an initial appearance in Somerset Superior Court in Skowhegan.

McCaul was hospitalized hours after the body of 63-year-old Richard Howe was found in her apartment on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. She was charged with murder the following Monday.

Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland declined to discuss the nature of McCaul’s health problems or to name the hospital where she was treated.
