Jury weighs drug charges against Millinocket man

By Judy Harrison, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine – A federal jury began deliberations Wednesday morning in the trial of a Millinocket man on drug charges.

The jury must decide if William “Billy” L. Bernier is guilty of conspiring to distribute marijuana or if he simply was a customer who purchased pot from Chad Marquis, 34, of Fort Kent.

Jurors heard closing arguments early Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor after two days of testimony. Marquis is serving a 33-month sentence at a federal prison camp in Devens, Mass.

Two other men, who have pleaded guilty to distributing

marijuana for Marquis but have not been sentenced, also testified against Bernier.
