Can Maine’s boat building business be grown?

A vessel made by Morris Yacht of Bass Harbor recently won a national award. Maine’s boat building industry is often linked to economic highs and lows; when the wealthy class becomes very wealthy, as it did in the late 1990s, more boats are sold. Could the industry

be transformed so it is less susceptible to down turns? Can the state play a role in promoting Maine boat builders? What might the state do?
