MONROE, Maine — A Hampden man was treated for minor injuries after his pickup truck and the empty horse trailer it was hauling skidded off the road and crashed Monday night.

Christopher Hitchcock, 31, of Bog Road was taken by Brooks Ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast complaining of head and leg pain. He was treated and released later that night.

Hitchcock was traveling on the Monroe Road in the area of Haley Road at 9:15 p.m. when his late model Ford F-350 truck and the five-horse trailer skidded in freshly fallen snow on a curve and left the road. The vehicles continued down an embankment and landed on their side in a clump of woods, according to Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Dave Mushrall’s report.

Both vehicles were towed back onto the road. The pickup received an estimated $18,000 in damage and was declared a total wreck. Damage to the trailer was estimated at $1,000. The Monroe Fire Department assisted at scene.
