BANGOR, EAST MILLINOCKET and MASSACHUSETTS – Charlotte Helen (Gifford) Moscone, 92, passed away Dec. 24, 2009, surrounded by her family at her home in Bangor. Born Oct. 31, 1917, in Lee, daughter of Cecil and Inez (Hooke) Gifford of Mattawamkeag, she was lovingly raised by her great-aunt and great-uncle, Albion and Edith “Deedee” Hathaway of Medway, after her mother died when she was 2 1/2. Charlotte married Charles E. Moscone of East Millinocket in 1938. They moved to Massachusetts in 1956 settling in Boston and then Wakefield, before returning to Bangor in the early 1980s. Charlie passed away in 1998, just short of their 60th wedding anniversary. Charlotte treasured her family and they were the focus of her life. She loved to cook and was the one who prepared the family holiday turkeys, cranberry sauce and desserts. Her culinary talents will be especially missed. She also enjoyed knitting dishcloths and kept her family and friends well supplied with them as well as handmade Christmas gift tags. Charlotte delivered Meals for ME and also drove for Project Ride for 10 years in the 1980s through 1990s. For the past four years she had been greeting the troops at Bangor International Airport as a member of the Maine Troop Greeters. She counts among them many dear friends, all of whom have been so supportive during her battle with cancer, especially Bill Knight. She had recently remarked that greeting the troops was the most rewarding activity of her adult life and she was so honored to have participated in it. Charlotte is survived by their two daughters, Julie LaCombe Antworth and her husband, Keith, of Bangor, and Jane Meador and her husband, Robert, of Denver; grandchildren, Jeffrey LaCombe of Veazie and his fiancee, Debbie Fitzpatrick, of Houlton, Carolyn LaCombe Carroll and her husband, John, of Swampscott, Mass., Ryan Meador of Worcester, Mass., and Paige Meador of Denver; stepgranddaughter, Terry LaCombe of Hudson; four precious great-grandchildren, Jackson LaCombe, and Madison, Mackenzie and Sydney Carroll; nieces and nephew, Joanne Saari, Jacqueline Pratt, and Carroll Gifford; and faithful granddogs, Snuggles and Jack. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Clayton Gifford of Millinocket; and sister, Verna Gentile of Melrose, Mass. Calling hours will be 3:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, with the Rev. Robert T.
