PORTLAND, Maine — The Canadian province of Nova Scotia might still be able to subsidize ferry service to Maine, but not for the high speed vessel “The Cat.”
A spokeswoman for Premier Darrell Dexter tells the Portland Press Herald a study on transportation options for the Maritime Province is due to be completed next month and it will include possible ferry service.
Last week Bay Ferries said it would end its high speed ferry between Yarmouth and Bar Harbor and Portland, Maine, because it was losing its subsidy.
The government feels a traditional ferry would be more practical since it would be able to carry trucks between the two countries.
A delegation of business leaders met with Dexter on Wednesday and urged him to subsidize The Cat for one more season.
