Maine jail worker sues over firing for prank

The Associated Press

AUBURN, Maine — A former correctional officer at the Androscoggin County jail fired for duct taping a co-worker to his chair is suing to get his job back.

The Sun Journal of Lewiston says former Cpl. Patrick R. Gorham of Lisbon says the duct taping and the use of a choke hold that were caught on surveillance video were “horseplay” in the workplace.

In his complaint, Gorham says the Sept. 22 prank was initiated by his supervisor, who later resigned.

The victim of the prank was taped to the chair and wheeled around the building before he eventually freed himself.

Androscoggin County Sheriff Guy Desjardins has said the incident put at risk the security of workers and inmates and could have put the county in jeopardy if an emergency had arisen.
