PORTLAND — Maine’s Supreme Judicial Court has rejected the appeal of a Canton man convicted of robbing, raping and murdering his pregnant co-worker before burying her body in Lewiston.
Richard Dwyer is serving a life sentence after a jury last year found him guilty of raping and strangling Donna Paradis in 2007. She was eight months pregnant.
Dwyer’s DNA was found on a ligature that bound the victim, an ID holder from the victim’s car and a genital swab.
In its Tuesday ruling, the court rejected all of Dwyer’s arguments, including his assertions that DNA evidence was flawed and that the sentence was too harsh.
Prosecutors say Dwyer attacked Paradis after offering to help her to buy a car. He says he’s innocent.
