2 facing federal fraud charges in Maine

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Federal prosecutors say a man from Auburn and a woman from Portland are facing a total of 23 health care and other fraud charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 74-year-old Ahmed Yusuf Guled claimed that 58-year-old Dahabo Abdulle Osman of Portland was providing personal care nursing services for him that were reimbursed through MaineCare’s Adults with Disability and Elderly Waiver program.

Prosecutors say that MaineCare paid more than $61,000 based on false claims the two made.

The two were also charged with making false statements to receive other federal benefits.

Guled was indicted on 16 counts, each of which carries a maximum 10 year prison term.

Osman was charged with 12 counts, three of which carry 10-year sentences.
