Bangor Hydro donates ropes course to Acadia

BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. has donated five poles and their installation to The Acadia Hospital to assist in the creation of a high ropes course on the hospital’s campus on Stillwater Avenue in Bangor.

The poles will provide the structure upon which the ropes course will be built and is part of Acadia’s new Adventure Program. The value of the poles and the installation is more than $4,000.

The Acadia Hospital Adventure Program is centered on an indoor climbing wall and outdoor high- and low-ropes course, allowing the psychiatric hospital to teach life skills in an environment that is fun, challenging and adventurous.

The technique has been shown to have a profound effect on positive behavioral learning and physical conditioning, the hospital said. The course will be completed later this winter and will be in use as weather permits year-round.
