Maine school bus driver charged with OUI resigns

The Associated Press

SACO, Maine — A Saco school bus driver accused of driving drunk twice in one day has resigned.

The Portland Press Herald reported that 49-year-old Jan Mooney resigned Friday, 10 days after being taken off her bus just as she was about to take dozens of middle school students home. Police say her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit for most drivers and more than four times the limit for drivers with commercial licenses, such as bus drivers.

The second charge stems from allegations that Mooney drove herself home from the police station after telling police she had arranged a ride.

School officials say all drivers now are required to leave buses at the bus depot and sign in before getting on them instead of being allowed to take the buses home.
