LEWISTON — A prominent Lewiston businessman has been ordered to pay $1.25 mil-lion to a Massachusetts man who accused him of sexual abuse.

The Lewiston Sun-Journal said a U.S. District Court jury found 74-year-old Sarto Sas-seville liable after a four-day civil trial and awarded the plaintiff $1.1 million in punitive damages and $150,000 in com-pensatory damages.

The plaintiff, now 19, accused Sasseville of abusing him in 1996 and 1997 when he was 6 and 7 years old.

Sasseville is a former dentist and former owner of a retire-ment and nursing home in Auburn.
