24 Maine police graduate from academy

The Associated Press

VASSALBORO, Maine — Maine has 24 new police officers following their graduation Friday from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

Most of the new officers are expected to hit the road immediately for holiday traffic enforcement duties.

The officers are going to work for 15 local police departments across the state, the Maine Warden Service and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

Public safety officials say Friday’s graduating class was the smallest in more than 12 years, likely reflecting the tough economic times.
