HERMON, Maine — Twenty-two Maine veterans are to be honored for their military service during a ceremony at Hermon High School.

State of Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medals are to be presented to four former prisoners of war during World War II, two Korean War Purple Heart recipients, as well as others who served in Vietnam, Iraq and other venues.

The Silver Star Honorable Service Medal is a state of Maine recognition awarded to members of the armed forces who were wounded while serving in a combat theater.

Nine of the recipients won’t be able to attend Tuesday’s ceremony.
