Snow-rain mix makes for tricky driving

The light snow that started around 5 p.m. Sunday in the Bangor area quickly turned to rain, creating a layer of ice on roadways and treacherous driving conditions, officials said.

Vehicles were sliding off roads all over the region, and some could not make it up slippery hills, dispatchers from Maine State Police and Penobscot Regional Communications Center reported around 7 p.m.

“It looks like everything is minor,” the state police dispatcher said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

The body of a Brewer man was found in bed at his home on High Street around noon Saturday, and even though nothing looked suspicious, the state medical examiner’s office was called in to investigate, Brewer police Sgt. David Lord said Sunday.

“We have no idea how the guy died,” he said. “There is no signs of foul play.”

A relative found the 49-year-old man in his bedroom.

“He did have some medical issues he was dealing with,” Lord said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
