PALMYRA, Maine — A woman from Hartland is recovering from serious injuries after an accident Saturday morning on Route 152 within a mile of the Hartland-Palmyra town line.

Attempts to reach the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department officers who worked at the scene were unsuccessful Saturday and Sunday.

Hartland Fire Chief Don Neal said the woman was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by LifeFlight helicopter after the accident, which happened just after 8 a.m. Neal, who declined to name the woman, said she was recovering from serious multiple injuries Sunday night.

Because of numerous utility lines knocked down by the crash, Route 152 was closed until about 1:30 p.m. Saturday while crews repaired the damage.

Neal said power crews shut down the electrical grid in the area. According to a recording at Central Maine Power’s electrical outage hot line, power was out Saturday morning in at least four communities.

Neal said having the road closed caused a considerable inconvenience, but was necessary.

“When we stop a road like that, we usually get a lot of attention from people,” said Neal. “We do it for their safety and not to be a burden.”

Neal said he didn’t know what caused the accident, but patches of ice and drifting snow might have been a factor.
