Safety courses available

With the days still shortening and the weather getting colder, outdoors enthusiasts may be looking for an excuse to spend a bit of time indoors over the coming weeks.

For those who are looking to introduce someone new to the sports they already enjoy, the state is offering a variety of safety courses.

Here are some of your local options:

Hunter safety courses

• In Caribou, at Caribou Adult Education, Jan. 12, 13, 19, 20 from 6-9 p.m. Call Karen at 493-4272 for information.

• In Friendship, at Hahn Community Center, Jan. 19, 27, 28 from 6-9 p.m. This is a home-study course that also requires attendance at all sessions. Call 832-5205 for info or register at www.msad40.maineadulted.org.

• In Camden, at Camden Hills High School, Feb. 22, March 1,2, from 6-9 p.m. This is a home-study course that also requires attendance at all sessions. Call 236-7800, extension 274.

Bowhunting safety courses

• In Caribou, at Caribou Adult Education, Feb. 9, 10, 16, 17 from 6-9 p.m. Call Karen at 493-4272.

Crossbow courses

• In Washington, at Prescott School, Feb. 10 from 6-9:30 p.m. Call 832-5205 with questions. Register at www.msad40.maineadulted.org.

• In Camden, at Camden Hills High School, March 18 from 6-9:30 p.m. Call 236-7800, extension 274.

ATV courses

• In Readfield, at Maranacook High School, March 11, 18 from 6-9 p.m. Call 685-4923, extension 317.

• In Hampden, at Reeds Brook School, Feb. 1-3, 6-8:30 p.m. This is a combination ATV and snowmobile course. Call 862-6422.

Snowmobile courses

• In Union, at the Union School, Jan. 12, 21 from 6-9 p.m. Call 832-5205 for information. Register at www.msad40.maineadulted.org.

• In Hampden, at Reeds Brook School, Feb. 1-3, 6-8:30 p.m. This is a combination ATV and snowmobile course. Call 862-6422.

• In Lincoln, at Ballard Hill Community Center, Jan. 26, 27 from 6-9 p.m. Call 794-6548.
