AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Arts Commission is seeking proposals for three Percent for Art projects, including two in the Bangor area, with a combined total budget of $122,000.
The two local projects are set for the new Brewer Elementary/Middle School and Aubert Hall at the University of Maine in Orono. Both sites have Dec. 18 deadlines for proposals.
The Brewer site has a project budget of $43,000 and the Orono site is $34,000.
The third site, at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, has a $50,000 budget and a Jan. 4, 2010 deadline.
The Brewer selection committee is looking to commission one or more artists to address the interior of the building, specifically the two-story portions of the Main Entrance lobby, Media Center-Library, and the Performing Arts Center lobby. These three areas will not accommodate sculpture that largely takes up space on the floor.
For questions about architectural elements, contact Jill Simpson at email@example.com. Other questions, including requests for architectural plans and images, can be sent to Alison Ferris at the Maine Arts Commission, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The art selection committee from the Aubert Hall Percent for Art site is seeking proposals for 3-D artwork that would be placed between the west façade of the 1914 portion of the building and Munson Road, or between the east facade of Aubert Hall (including the east sides of the 1940 and 1958 additions) and the campus’ North Mall.
The USM project entails the design, creation and installation of artwork at the University Commons.
The architect representative for this project is Charles Earley who can be contacted by e-mail at email@example.com. The site may be visited by contacting Elaine Clark by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up an appointment. All other questions can be directed to Ferris.
Maine’s Percent for Art law reserves 1 percent of construction funds for all state-funded projects to provide artwork for the public areas. The program is run by the Maine Arts Commission.
