Is it time to rein-in Maine special education spending?

Education Commissioner Susan Gendron is planning to pitch a plan to the Legislature that would make Maine’s special education law conform to federal standards. The proposal would standardize special ed identification from district to district and could

result in less long-term services. Is this the right step to take, or will it result in more children falling through the cracks?
