Santa Sunday at Maine ski resort

The Associated Press

NEWRY, Maine — Hundreds of skiers decked in Santa outfits and beards are carving up the trails as the Sunday River ski resort celebrates its 10th annual Santa Sunday.

Sunday River says more than 500 people signed up for the event on Sunday morning. In past years, the resort has limited the number to 250.

For the event, skiers get a free lift ticket if they come dressed in a Santa hat, jacket, pants and beard and donate $10 or more to the Bethel Rotary Club’s annual drive to provide gifts for the area’s children in need. They also get two additional lift tickets valid through Dec. 18.

The skiing St. Nicks make their way downhill and then pose for a photo shoot to capture the moment.
