BANGOR, Maine — Visitors to Bangor will find lots to do Saturday, when the annual Festival of Lights parade and holiday tree lighting come to the downtown area.

The parade, organized by the Rotary Club of Bangor, steps off at 4:30 p.m. at the corner of Railroad and Main streets, according to the parade brochure posted on www.downtownbangor.com.

From there, the parade will proceed down Main Street through the traffic light at the intersection of Hammond and State streets, where it will turn onto Central Street. After it turns onto Harlow Street it will wend its way to its ending point on Exchange Street.

This year’s parade theme is “Joys of the Season,” and spectators are reminded to bring nonperishable food for donation at a number of points along the parade route to fill Lane Construction’s float with a ton of food.

The lighting of the holiday tree at West Market Square will be held immediately after the parade.

During the hours leading up to the parade and tree lighting, children are invited to visit Santa’s Workshop at 115 Main St., where Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet children and pose for photographs. The workshop also is the starting point for the Santa Scavenger Hunt, which runs from noon to 4 p.m. and is open to all children.

After picking up a game card at the workshop, children will follow a map to a series of downtown locations to find the hidden Santas. An “elf” will be on hand at each hidden Santa site to punch children’s game cards.

After finding all the hidden Santas, hunt participants are invited to return to the workshop by 4 p.m. to claim their prizes.
