BAILEYVILLE, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating several car burglaries in the Domtar parking lot that were discovered when the overnight shift let out Saturday morning and workers returned to their vehicles.

Taken were a 1997 Ford Taurus, several electronic gadgets and three guns.

According to state police Sgt. Alden Bustard, Trooper Kimberly Sawyer is investigating the thefts, which mostly occurred from separate vehicles.

Bustard said the Taurus was recovered over the weekend in Stockton Springs, and Trooper Jonah O’Roake collected evidence from the scene there.

Bustard said none of the other missing items were in the car or recovered. They include a semiautomatic Remington 12-gauge shotgun with a scope, a pump-action Remington .270-caliber rifle, and a British Enfield bolt-action rifle and a seven-shot clip.

Also stolen were a Garmin Nuvi global positioning system and a Sirius Satellite radio receiver.

Bustard did not know whether the vehicles were locked.

Bustard said Monday that there have been sporadic theft reports from the area in past months “but nothing like this string of thefts.”

He said the investigation is continuing.
