Sanford “Sonny” Miller’s casket is taken from Congregation Beth Israel synagogue to a hearse after a funeral service Monday in Bangor. More than 300 people, including Maine Gov. John Baldacci, attended the funeral of Miller, whose landmark Main Street restaurant was described during the service as “a place of community.” Family spokesman Bill Miller said his cousin was “respected by all faiths.” Longtime friend the Rev. James Haddix, pastor of All Souls Congregational Church in Bangor, told the assemblage, “When I think of Sonny Miller, I feel rich: rich in memory, rich in friendship, rich in his example of generosity and caring, rich in love that came to surround him.” Rabbi Steven Schwarzman officiated. Miller died on Nov. 26 at age 82.
