Jury indicts Bangor man for bad checks

BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man the district attorney said has a long history of passing bad checks was indicted Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury for writing nearly $6,000 in worthless checks.

Jonathan Gaudet, 28, was indicted on seven counts of negotiating a worthless instrument and one count of forgery.

Penobscot County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy said Monday that Gaudet has a long record of writing bad checks in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. He is being held at the Penobscot County Jail on warrants in those two counties and Waldo County, according to jail personnel.

Almy urged businesses not to accept checks from Gaudet if he is released.

Gaudet is scheduled to be arraigned on the Class C charges Dec. 18 at the Penobscot Judicial Center. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 on each count of negotiating a worthless instrument. He also could be ordered to pay restitution.
