LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP, Maine — An Anson man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident Saturday morning after a single-car crash that a sheriff’s deputy attributed to alcohol use and excessive speed.

Derik Jordan, 22, allegedly crashed a 1997 Chevy van into a telephone pole on Long Falls Dam Road in Lexington Township.

Jordan was not injured, but the van was “heavily damaged,” according to Somerset County sheriff’s Deputy Michael Ross.

Jordan allegedly left the scene and walked to a nearby relative’s house.

“He admitted he had been drinking earlier in the night before the accident happened,” said Ross, who interviewed Jordan some three hours later. “Speed and alcohol certainly had something to do with the crash.”

In addition to those factors, Ross said, the road was slippery because of heavy snow that fell Friday night.

The deputy said Jordan didn’t appear to be intoxicated when he talked to him.
