Maine woman charged in crash that killed husband

The Associated Press

FARMINGTON, Maine — A 50-year-old Jay woman is facing a manslaughter charge that she was driving drunk when she was involved in a crash that killed her husband.

Barbara Benoit is also charged with aggravated drunken driving.

The July 12 accident killed Benoit’s husband Peter, the owner of a Farmington restaurant.

Police say Benoit’s car hit a guardrail, flipped onto its roof and landed on its wheels.

The Morning Sentinel of Waterville says that despite the damage, Benoit drove the car home. Her husband was fatally injured after being hit by a section of guardrail that smashed through the passenger side window.
