FairPoint loses $77 million in 3rd quarter

CONCORD, N.H. — Bankrupt FairPoint Communications lost $77 million in the third quarter.

The loss in the quarter that ended Sept. 30, came on revenues of $268.3 million.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says the revenues were off 18.3 percent from the same period in 2008.<

The company said total voice access lines in service fell 9.3 percent in the year between Sept. 30, 2008, and this year.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based FairPoint released the unaudited results in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

FairPoint is the largest landline telephone provider in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. It declared bankruptcy last month.

So far this year FairPoint has lost $103.9 million.
