VEAZIE – Barbara L. Higgins, 80, wife of the late Edward F. Higgins, died Nov. 19, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born July 7, 1929, in Bangor, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Arnold) Attner. Barbara was a nursing instructor all of her life. She was a member of Nursing Alumni Association; Sunshine Club for Children; Veazie Garden Club; Veazie Senior Citizens; Bangor Mall Walkers; and Eastern Star Millwee Chapter No. 198, Orrington. She was an advisor for Orono Assembly Rainbow Girls, was active in Maine Society for the Prevention of Blindness, and was a member of Veazie Congregational Church; Ladies Auxiliary Veterans’ of Foreign Wars, Hampden; AARP; Maine Association of Retirees; and the University of Maine Alumni. She is survived by her three children, Albert Higgins and his wife, Linda, of Veazie, Deborah and her husband, Michael LaMothe, of Princeton, W.Va., and David Higgins and Janet Tenney of Veazie; her daughter-in-law, Diane Higgins of Hampden; and nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa, Kimberly, Shawn, Kyle, Matthew, Christopher, Jessica and Cody. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, A. Fred Higgins. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, with Pastor David W. Fox, pastor of Veazie Congregational Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie.
