AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s state parks and historic sites have had a good year despite weeks on end of rain this summer.
According to the Department of Conservation, there were just over 2 million visits to Maine’s 47 state parks and historic sites through October. That’s an increase of 6.7 percent over last year.
Day visits were up 7.4 percent, and overnight visits were up 1 percent.
Conservation officials say visits were down during the rainy weather in June and much of July, but that attendance picked up in late July and remained strong into the fall.
