Second boy arrested in Warren cemetery vandalism

WARREN, Maine — A second boy has been arrested in connection with the recent vandalism of River View Cemetery, Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison said Tuesday.

The 12-year-old juvenile was arrested Saturday for aggravated criminal mischief and interfering with a burial ground. He then was released into the custody of his parents, Dennison said.

He was apprehended just a day after a 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged with the same crimes.

A total of 35 headstones were damaged or destroyed in River View Cemetery during two separate incidents in September and October.

Warren Town Manager Grant Watmough said Monday that it will cost more than $3,000 to repair the stones.

Town officials had last week offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the vandals involved.
