Searsport supper to benefit Montville family

Members of First Congregational Church of Searsport are holding a benefit fish chowder supper at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Curtis Hall on Church Street.

Proceeds will assist the family of Mark and Susan Hanson of Montville, reports Karen Kelly. Mark Hanson is terminally ill with cancer.

Admission for the fish chowder meal with biscuits, dessert and beverage is $7 for adults and $4 for children.

Kelly asks you to “please help us help this family.”

Hancock Women’s Club president Jackie Nicholson invites area women to hear Joy Foster of MedNow and Coastal Health Center discuss “strokes and heart health” at 7 tonight at Hancock Community Center.

Donations will be collected for the Food Pantry and Good Shepherd Food-Bank. More information is available by calling Nicholson at 422-6852.

HWC publicity chair Diana Arney reports its annual holiday craft fair is 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Hancock Grammar School.

Proceeds benefit community youth and maintenance of the HWC clubhouse.

Breakfast, luncheon and take-home foods will be offered.

Susan Carlisle reminds readers Maine Discovery Museum’s seventh annual gala dinner and auction, “Tray Chic!” is 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Spectacular Event Center, Bangor.

Admission is $45. Reservations are available by calling the museum at 262-7200.

Tables with removable trays, painted by more than 60 Maine artists, can be viewed at www.mainediscoverymuseum.org, where absentee bidding also is available.

The auction features other “surprise” items.

Proceeds benefit the museum and its educational programs.

Lorraine Harvey reports the Sunshine Club for Children holiday marketplace is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Anah Shrine Center, 586 Main St., Bangor.

Additional parking is available at Bangor Pipe & Supply Inc., 68 Farm Road.

Admission is $1. Door prizes will be drawn throughout the day, lunch is available and raffle tickets will be sold for a king-size quilt.

This fundraiser “is very important in helping defray costs of transportation for patients to the Shriners Hospitals, where care is provided free to patients,” Harvey wrote.

Brewer High School Project Graduation holds the third annual Dancing Like the Stars competition to fund “a chemical-free evening for the Brewer Class of 2010” on graduation night, wrote Becky Shultz.

Shultz invites you to “watch the dazzling performances of our dancers” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Brewer High School gymnasium.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and $10 for “limited priority seating.”

It costs $1 to vote for your favorite dancers, and you can “vote as many times as you want,” she added.

Open Communication, with trainer Peggy Smith, is sponsoring a workshop-fundraiser for the Eastern Maine Chapter of Brit Tzedek v’Shalom, the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, e-mailed member Joyce Schelling.

The workshop, “Growing Peace Within Me and the World,” is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at 304 Hancock St., Bangor.

Open to the public regardless of ability to pay, the workshop “is a $75 value,” Schelling wrote.
