An intoxicated Bangor man used a rock to smash the window of a car parked on Essex Street late Monday, then began rummaging through the vehicle, but a witness reported him to police.

Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday that when Officer Brian Smith arrived at the scene, he saw Eric Warman running away and gave chase. Warman, 21, was arrested and charged with felony Class C burglary to a motor vehicle and misdemeanor criminal mischief. If convicted of a Class C crime, Warman faces a penalty of up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.

“It’s a felony because he smashed a window to gain entry,” Edwards said.

Warman was taken to Penobscot County Jail and remained there Tuesday night, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

Sgt. Arden Jones said Tuesday a 16-year-old Orland girl entered the store with her mother and began putting small items into her pockets. “Her mom wasn’t very happy with her daughter,” Jones said.

The juvenile, who was not identified by police, was charged just before 11 a.m. Monday with shoplifting and released to the custody of her mother. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
