Lost teen hunter found safe after night in woods

ENFIELD, Maine — A 15-year-old Old Town boy who became separated from his uncle while hunting Saturday afternoon was found uninjured early Sunday morning.

The Maine Warden Service was notified at 6:45 p.m. Saturday of the disappearance of Toby Kimball, who was hunting with his uncle Greg Savage of Enfield off Dodlin Road, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokeswoman Deborah Turcotte said Sunday.

A Maine Search and Rescue dog team found Kimball at 4 a.m. Sunday. He was cold and wet but uninjured.

Saturday was the opening day of the deer hunt in Maine.

The uncle and nephew were separated when Savage, 28, left Kimball at about 5:30 p.m. to circle a field, according to Warden Bruce Loring. The teen fired at a deer and yelled to his uncle for help, but was unsuccessful in making contact.

Kimball became worried and tried to leave the area, according to Loring, but got lost. Wardens fired shots into the air to attract the teen’s attention. Kimball told rescuers he yelled out in response, but his shouts may have been muffled in high winds Saturday night.

Savage received a citation for allowing a teen to hunt unaccompanied by an adult.
