PORTLAND, Maine — Maine’s hunting season is getting under way — if you’re between 10 and 16 years old.
Saturday’s youth hunting day is a special time set aside for young hunters who reside in Maine to get an early crack at bagging a buck. Doe hunting also is allowed in special zones.
Roland “Danny” Martin, commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, says youth hunting day gives an opportunity for young hunters to learn from adults.
Next weekend, adult Maine residents will get their own special day on Oct. 31, then the season opens for all hunters on Monday, Nov. 2.
