EASTPORT, Maine — U.S. Coast Guard officials spent more than an hour with family members of a sunken urchin dragger’s crew late Thursday morning before briefing the media on the status of their search.

The Bottom Basher, a 34-foot urchin dragger went down Tuesday night. A large debris field and oil slick were found in Straight Bay Wednesday by Coast Guard and other vessels searching for the overdue crew of three men.

The Coast Guard recovered the body of Darryl Cline of Machiasport Wednesday, but the other two crew members, Joseph Jones, 27, the boat’s owner, of Trescott and Norman Johnson of Cutler were still missing. With rain and an air temperature of 37 degrees, and water temperatures of 47 degrees, the Coast Guard said it would suspend their search at sundown Thursday. Seas in the area were forecast to be 4 feet by late afternoon.

A pile of debris from the sunken vessel was piled on the dock here. None of the pieces was larger than a kitchen table. The debris field, Coast Guard officials said, was extensive stretching from Reversing Falls at Straight Bay, to Campbello Island, New Brunswick

Cline’s body was recovered Wednesday in the waters near Shackford Head, Eastport.
