BLUE HILL, Maine — Downed power lines caused a power outage Thursday on the Blue Hill Peninsula.

Although there were initial reports of an accident in the area, crews from Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. traced the cause of the outage to a splice system in the transmission line that serves the area.

The problem interrupted power to 7,537 customers in Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Deer Isle, Stonington, Surry and some surrounding towns.

Power was out in those areas for several hours and was restored by 1:20 p.m.
