‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ drama remains riveting for viewers

I’m not usually one to give in (just ask the Man on the Couch), but I’m breaking my vow to avoid writing about “Jon & Kate Plus 8” or whatever we should call the show now that Kate is minus Jon and only one of them has eight at a time.

Every day there seems to be a new report somewhere about the couple. They’re separated. They’re divorcing. They’re trying to work things out. The show must go on. The show can’t go on for the children’s sake. Jon’s a cheating husband. Kate’s an unfit mother.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the latest news is that Kate is suing Jon for taking money he shouldn’t have, and Jon might be in legal trouble with TLC for breaking their contract and demanding that filming for next season be stopped.

Normally, I would say, “Who cares? Get over it.” But it’s just not that easy. TLC has done its job in sucking us into the everyday lives of the Gosselin family. People I never imagined even knowing who this reality TV family is are posting about them on Facebook and catching up on the latest Gosselin gossip in line at the grocery store.

I realize every family has its crazy moments and crazy members, but what are these people thinking? If they’re hoping the drama will lead to enough dough to put all eight children through college, they must have enough put away to be able to stop anytime now.

But of course not. Kate now is scheduled to let us in on everything we’ve wondered about in a TLC special “You Ask, Kate Answers.” The network, according to Reality TV World reports, has received more than 9,000 questions from viewers.

I’m not sure she’ll have time to answer them all in the one-hour special set to air at 9 p.m. Monday, but I admit I’ve already set the DVR to record and I’m eager to see what juicy details she has to offer. Can there really be more that we don’t know?
