Sea urchin dragger, crew of 3 missing in Lubec

By Sharon Kiley Mack, BDN Staff

LUBEC, Maine — The U.S. Coast Guard was searching Wednesday morning in Cobscook Bay for the missing sea urchin dragger Bottom Dasher after it was reported overdue at 10 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The Coast Guard’s Chris Berry says a helicopter and three boats are searching for Joseph Jones, the skipper, and crewmembers Darrell Cline and Norman Johnson who failed to return home to Lubec on Tuesday.

Maine State Police assisted on shore.

A debris field and oil slick were located in Johnson Bay, the bay between Lubec and Eastport. No people have been found.

A search was launched after the fiance of one of the men called to report the boat overdue last night.

The Bangor Daily News has a reporter and photographer at the scene and will update the story throughout the day with any developments. For a complete report, pick up tomorrow’s Bangor Daily News.
