A printmaker, a visual artist, a poet and a filmmaker are the four Mainers honored this year with the Maine Arts Commission’s annual Fellowship Award. This year’s four honorees are David C. Wolfe from Portland (Traditional Arts), Lauren Fensterstock, also from Portland (Visual Arts), Lee Sharkey from Vienna (Literary Arts), and Ryan Bennett from Pittsfield (Performing Arts). All four artists will be on hand at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at The Strand Theatre in Rockland for the MAC’s annual Maine Artist Fellowship Showcase. Wolfe is a master printmaker, who teaches young printmakers on his many antique presses and composition machines, housed in his Portland studio. Fensterstock, interim director of the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, is a painter who explores Maine’s changing seasons and extremes of climate and environment through her work. Sharkey has published multiple volumes of poetry and edits the Beloit Poetry Journal. Finally, Ryan Bennett is one of the youngest fellows in the award’s history. As a filmmaker, he’s the director, writer and editor of an award-winning short film, “Ramblin’ Round,” and is part of Maine’s burgeoning film scene. The showcase is free and open to the public.
