LAS VEGAS – Carroll “Cal” Howard Clarke, 67, died Oct. 15, 2009, in Las Vegas, after a brief illness. Cal was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Middletown, Conn. Although he grew up in Connecticut, he spent many summers with his special Uncle Earl and Aunt Shirley Hartley on their farm in Corinna. Cal graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1961. He, along with classmates, Galen Sinclair and Raymond Knowles, enlisted in the Air Force, where he had 28-year career and retired as a master sergeant. His distinguished military service included stays at bases all over the world and two tours in Vietnam. Cal lived and worked in Las Vegas after his retirement from the Air Force. Cal is survived by his sister, Patricia Turner and husband, Sam, of Westbrook, Conn.; four brothers, Norman Clarke and wife, Peggy, of Pittsfield, Bruce Clarke and wife, Brenda, of Corinna, Warren Clarke of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Wayne Clarke of Marathon, Fla. He is also survived by his aunt, Dorothy and husband, Harry Nason, of Newport; uncles, Perley Hartley, Darrell and wife, Judie Hartley, and Earl Hartley of Corinna; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Pray and Jeff Ayotte and their children of Las Vegas. Cal was predeceased by his wife, Sherry; his parents, Jerry and Hazel Clarke, formerly of Hartford, Conn., and Pittsfield; and aunts, Marie Hartley, Shirley Hartley and Gladys and husband, Carl Frost. A military honors burial will be held in Las Vegas. There will be no local services.
