Bangor Chamber seeks new members

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce has begun a “Back to Business” membership drive that will continue through Nov. 30 to increase awareness of Chamber benefits and to recruit new and returning members.

“We are in a good position to bring new members into the Chamber and invite former members to return so they may enjoy the full benefits that nearly 800 other businesses realize,” said Karen Cole, the chamber’s acting director. “It’s our goal to reach as many businesses as possible to share information about exciting new pro-grams, partnerships and events that are being planned to benefit our members.”

Mike Youngblood and Marie Hayden of the Chamber’s member services executive team will be visiting businesses in 21 communities over the next several weeks to talk about the advantages of Chamber membership. During the membership drive, specific incentives will be offered not only to new and returning members who join the chamber, but also to current members who make referrals. The Chamber now represents 780 businesses that employ 30,650 people.

“More than at any other time in recent history, our region’s Chamber members need [the BRCC] to advocate on their behalf,” board Chairman John Diamond said in the Chamber’s annual report. “And we plan to pursue that role through building a stronger membership base, seeking new and better ways to serve and interact with members, and going to bat for them with the policy makers and interests whose authority or influence can affect our members’ economic well-being.”

The Chamber also is seeking applications and working with a recruitment firm to identify candidates for its vacant president and CEO position.

The member services executive team is available to visit businesses within the Chamber’s 21 communities in the Greater Bangor market area. They can be reached by calling 947-0307.
