ISLAND FALLS – George F. Sewall, 89, made his exit from this life Oct. 12, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Caribou. He was born May 21, 1920, in Island Falls, the son of Fred S. and Phyllis (Garvrich) Sewall. After graduation from high school in 1939, George joined the Army and served as a medic during World War II, taking part in many of the island campaigns. After his discharge in 1945, George worked for the U.S. Health Service and later in life ran the old Sewall Sporting Camps, Mattawamkeag Lake. He is survived by three nephews, William Sewall and his wife, Joyce, of Washburn, David Sewall and his wife, Jill, of Dyer Brook, and Arthur Smith and his wife, Reneva, of Island Falls. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, William Sewall; two sisters, Mary Sewall and Elizabeth Sewall Schurman; and a special friend, Grafton Hardy. After cremation, a small family service will be held at Mattawamkeag Lake.
