MAPLETON, Maine — A Maine hunter has been hit with birdshot while pheasant hunting, the third incident in which a hunter was struck since Oct. 1.

The Maine Warden Service says a Mapleton man in his 20s was hit by birdshot while hunting with a friend on Saturday in Aroostook County. The man was hit in his lower leg and foot and was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. Officials are investigating.

On Thursday, a Virginia man was hit in the cheek while hunting with a friend in Long Pond Township. And on Oct. 1, a pheasant hunter was hit by birdshot in the chest area while hunting on Chebeague Island. Both men were treated at hospitals and released.
