EAST MACHIAS, Maine — Two people were injured Tuesday evening in what police are calling an alcohol-related crash.

Maine State Trooper Michael Southard said the crash occurred on Hadley Lake Road when the driver of a two-door Pontiac sedan, Ashley Anthony, 20, was attempting to close her door and lost control of the vehicle. The trooper and back-seat passengers did not know why the door was open.

The car, with four people inside — all from East Machias — hit a mailbox, the driver overcorrected, and the car rolled over, the trooper said.

Anthony and another front seat passenger, Jessica Moore, 25, were ejected from the car. Neither was wearing a seat belt, Southard said.

The passengers in the back seat, Corey Landeen, 21, and Misty Laveau, 19, were uninjured and both were wearing seat belts.

Anthony and Moore were taken by ambulance to Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Anthony was transferred by LifeFlight air ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Neither suffered life-threatening injuries, the trooper said.

Southard arrested Landeen at the scene and charged him with providing a place for minors to consume alcohol. He was taken to Washington County Jail. Southard said the four people had been at Landeen’s Hadley Lake Road home just before the crash.

Southard also summoned Laveau for possession of alcohol by a minor by consumption, and said charges were pending against Moore for providing alcohol to minors. The investigation is continuing, he said.

Southard was assisted at the scene by Maine State Trooper Greg Burns and Sgt. Alden Bustard.
