HARPSWELL, Maine — The Coast Guard says two boaters are safe after their motorboat ran aground and began taking on water in Casco Bay.

Paul Conner, search and rescue controller, says the 17-foot boat hit rocky ledge Monday morning at Whale Rock, about two miles southwest of Bailey Island.

He says the two people and their dog waited on Whale Rock for help.

Conner tells the Portland Press Herald that a Coast Guard rescue boat was able to get close enough to rescue the boaters around 10:30 a.m., an hour-and-a-half after the first call for help.
