AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci says Oakfield made the right decision.
In his weekly radio address Saturday, Baldacci commends the northern Maine town for approving development of a 34-turbine wind farm during a special town meeting. Voters also rejected a moratorium on wind projects. In return, Oakfield gets a new fire station, road improvements and a scholarship fund.
Baldacci says Oakfield’s action is a good example of how new ideas can deliver benefits. And the governor says that as the recession winds down, Maine must fight for every job it can create.
Baldacci says that’s why he led a wind power trade mission to Europe, and why lawmakers lowered the top income tax rate and expanded economic development programs.
