AUGUSTA, Maine — A 56-year-old Belgrade man is facing charges he drove at least 14 miles in the wrong lane of Interstate 95 before crashing head-on into a state police cruiser in Augusta.
Police say Richard LaChance was hospitalized in Lewiston following the Thursday night crash. He was charged with two misdemeanor traffic offenses.
The Kennebec Journal says more charges are possible.
Maine State Police Lt. Don Pomelow says police began to get calls at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday and then got calls about every mile.
Trooper Rick Moody had parked his cruiser in the northbound passing lane and was away from his vehicle when it was allegedly hit by LaChance’s car.
