GRAY, Maine — Miss Maine wants her crown back — no questions asked.

Susie Stauble of Gray reported to police last week that someone stole the crown, which was in a box, from the back seat of her car. Stauble says the replacement cost is $300 but that the crown itself is priceless to her. For now, she’s borrowing a crown from Miss Maine 2008, Adrienne Watkinson, for official appearances.

She’s encouraging the person who took the crown to return it to the Cole Farms Restaurant in Gray. She says it’ll be accepted with no questions asked, and there’d be no prosecution. If it isn’t returned then she says the Miss Maine organization and her sponsor will buy her a new one so she won’t be crownless at the Miss America Pageant in January.
