CHEBEAGUE ISLAND, Maine — A hunter has been shot on the first day of Maine’s waterfowl hunting season.

The Maine Warden Service said a duck hunter suffered a shotgun wound to the chest Thursday morning on Chebeague Island, near Portland in Casco Bay.

Officials said the hunter, whose name has not been released, was alert while being transported to Maine Medical Center.

The warden service is investigating.
